5 Best Beauty Enhancing Foods: Eat Beauty

There is definitely some truth in the old saying that beauty comes from the inside out. This is true for both our emotional beauty and our physical beauty. If your inner organs and detoxification processes are suffering, this will begin to show through your hair, teeth, nails, and skin. Luckily, there are many natural ways to promote inner beauty, such as eating a diet rich in beauty enhancing foods.

The best beauty enhancing foods

What do beauty enhancing foods have in common? The most beauty enhancing foods are high in antioxidants as well as being anti-inflammatory. Both of these qualities help your body function optimally. Antioxidants work by donating electrons to atoms called ‘free radicals’ and neutralizing them (un-neutralized free radicals can damage DNA and cause aging). Anti-inflammatories reduce chronic inflammation in the body (which is said to be the root of all diseases).

1. Green Tea

Green tea is packed with antioxidants like no other food. There are many beauty benefits to drinking green tea such as promoting DNA repair, providing vitamins B and E for skin healing, and unclogging pores through its antibacterial qualities. Green tea also has anti-inflammatory properties due to catechins, which can hydrate and heal skin.

Try drinking a cup of green tea in the morning instead of coffee, or use green tea bags on your eyes during a relaxing face mask.

2. Berries

Berries such as raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries are another example of beauty enhancing foods. Berries have more antioxidants than any other fruit, and can help reduce oxidative stress and contribute to a glowing complexion. Berries may also balance blood sugar, which is good news for those who suffer from acne, which is often caused by imbalanced blood sugar.

Mix up your berries each week. Try them on porridge, in smoothies, or even as an afternoon snack. Make sure to buy organic berries to reduce the load on your liver.

3. Tomatoes

Tomatoes are nutritious, hydrating, and packed with flavonoid antioxidants. The lycopene and beta-carotene in tomato seeds, in particular, reduces free radicals and inflammation. This is all good news for your skin. In addition, tomatoes are full of Vitamin C, which can help reduce hyperpigmentation and give you glowing skin.

Eat tomatoes in salads, sauces, and more. You can even grill tomatoes to eat with breakfast.

4. Sunflower Seeds

Sunflower seeds are great for beauty due to their fatty acid and vitamin E content. Additionally, sunflower seeds contain fiber, which can help treat constipation and get toxins moving out of the body. With good elimination, the skin will improve in clarity and tone.

Try putting sunflower seeds on porridge or on salads, or eating them as a snack throughout the day.

5. Avocado

Avocado seems to be the millennial’s best friend, and for good reason. Avocadoes are loaded up with Vitamin E, which can moisturize the epidermis (the outer layer of skin). In addition, avocadoes contain antioxidants and are even associated with reducing skin conditions including eczema and acne.

Mash up avocado on toast for breakfast, eat it in a salad or as a dip, or blend it up in smoothies. You can even switch to using avocado oil in your cooking.
