Self Care City Guide: New York City

New York is one of my favorite cities to visit. I have been visiting since I was very young, partly because I have family (and now friends) in the city, and partly because… who could resist NYC? However, it seems like I end every trip more exhausted than I was before. My self care in NYC goes out the window. When I visit NYC, I want to do everything, from the Broadway plays to strolling the crowded streets to Times Square.

Burnout or Self Care in NYC: Pick One

On my last trip to NYC, I was stressed, overwhelmed, and recovering from a back spasm. My body just couldn’t hold up to the ‘Go, Go, Go’ bucket list mentality I was forcing on it. That’s why, on my next trip, I will be exploring self care in NYC. As one of the hippest cities in the world, there are so many self care and wellness activities in NYC! Here are six of the best.

1. Visit The Whitney Museum

Take a wander through the Whitney Museum of American art, or any other classic NYC museum. Turn your phone on airplane mode and just observe.

2. Visit Heal Haus Brooklyn

Brooklyn is such a cool neighborhood to explore, and one of the best spots for self care in NYC. Take an afternoon trip to Heal Haus, which is a combo wellness space and café. Here, there are diverse healing workshops and classes, from yoga to meditation to qigong.

3. Have a Picnic in Central Park

NYC may be a concrete jungle, but it is also home to one of the world’s most beloved city parks. If your visit is in the spring, summer, or autumn, stop by a Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s and pick up a picnic to have in Central Park.

4. Relax in The Cloisters

Many people don’t realize that the Met has a branch in Northern Manhattan called The Cloisters. These medieval style cloisters are the perfect oasis, on four acres of land overlooking the river.

5. Bathe at cityWell

cityWell is another opportunity for self care in NYC that is located in Brooklyn. At cityWell you can experience an urban bathhouse with traditional treatments. Try hydrotherapy and rejuvenate yourself on your next trip to NYC!

6. Have a drink at the Alchemist’s Kitchen

Sample a tonic or drink at Alchemist’s Kitchen. You won’t even notice that your cocktail is alcohol-free. Alchemist’s Kitchen creates botanical drinks that are targeting at healing your body.

There are so many more opportunities for self care in NYC. This is just a small sampling! Do you have any suggestions for activities or businesses that cater to self care in NYC? Let us know!
