Self Care City Guide: Chicago

We are back with another self care city guide for all the travelers out there who want to seek a bit of calm and peace on their next vacation. With our self care city guide to Chicago we are spilling our favorite spots after years of visiting the Midwest’s biggest city.

Self care city guide Chicago tips

Many people are surprised to visit Chicago and find that it carries the same ‘big city’ feel as other destinations like NYC and London. However what separates Chicago is its friendly people, relaxed atmosphere, and Midwestern charm.

Wander through the Art Institute

The Chicago Art Institute is really a world wonder. You could spend hours winding down the hallways admiring famous artwork from Van Gogh to Picasso. Make sure you explore the Miniature Room – where you will find dozens of miniaturized rooms and houses on display.

Soak up nature at Garfield Park Conservatory

For an escape into nature, soak up the plant life at Chicago’s free Garfield Park Conservatory. This massive conservatory is even home to a room that shows what Chicago would have looked like millions of years ago: full of moss and ferns.

Relax on the beach

Is there anything more relaxing than laying on the beach with a good book? Chicago is located right on Lake Michigan, and in the summer many bathers frequent the beaches for barbeques, volleyball, swimming, concerts, and just relaxing.

Grab some plant-based diner food at Chicago Diner

An absolute favorite in Chicago is the Chicago Diner. An unassuming and typical diner on the outside, inside it is completely vegetarian with lots of gluten free and vegan options. Our recommendation is the Buddha Burger, along with any of their famous vegan milkshakes. We promise you won’t be disappointed!

Zen out in a traditional yoga class

There is a growing yoga scene in Chicago that is unique in its focus on traditional yogic values. Try to grab a class at Moksha Yoga, the best-known yoga studio in the city. If you’re lucky, there may even be a workshop on during your visit. My own personal favorite studio in Chicago is Hilltop Yoga in Lakeview, the sister studio of where I did my own yoga teacher training!

Detox with Harvest Juicery

If you’re looking for a light meal or snack, head to Harvest Juicery. Here, you can pick up cold pressed juices, coconut cult yogurt, and even bone broth. What’s better is that Harvest Juicery has partnerships with local farms, ensuring high quality and low environmental impact!
